The Nine Worlds, in Brief
In Norse mythology, the gargantuan ash tree, Yggdrasil, connected nine worlds with radically different environments and inhabitants. Here's a summary of each of the worlds depicted in the menu backgrounds: Asgard: The fortified home of the Aesir, mostly the gods you know from playing as the Norse. Ljossalfheim: The overwhelming, mysterious and secluded home of the Elves, or Alfar. Vanaheim: A single, lush island, home of the Vanir, nature-gods that once warred with the Aesir. Jotunheim: A rugged world covered with huge trees and mountains, home of the Mountain Giants. Midgard: The home of human beings, made by Odin from the dead body of the giant Ymir. Muspellheim: The molten home of the Fire Giants. Niflheim: A frozen, mist-filled world stalked by roaming Frost Giants. Svartalfheim: A dark, unforgiving world, under which is Nidavellir, the homeland of the Dwarves. Helheim: The shadowy world under complete control of Hela; the abode of those who did not die in battle or childbirth.
A special thanks to Reyk, for the editor and extra cliff/water types used, Auron, for his custom menu background guide, and Yeebaagoon, for inspiring me to make my own menu backgrounds.
