Several months ago Mythos Ruler put together a mod for AOM that changed most if not all of the terrains for a greatly improved appearance of the game. During this process I remade the few maps that his mod had negatively affected - some of the remade terrains did not blend exactly like the originals. These several maps were to be released when he finished the whole mod, but he ceased working on the project sometime last winter. These maps - Anatolia, Marsh, Watering Hole, Savannah, Megaopolis and Erebus - have not changed at all in gameplay or features, just in appearance. The map terrains were rematched and rebalanced for an improved appearance over the original ES maps as well as how the originals looked in the EPIC mod. There are no changes in resources or other features that affect gameplay, just the map appearance. These maps have been just sitting on my computer the past few months, and since Mythos Ruler has told me he will not be working further on the mod, I thought that I would release these for others to enjoy.
The Marsh map looks the most different from the original due to the radical change made in the terrains. Savannah, Watering Hole and
Megaopolis make use of the Savannah terrains as the base, and I have used some other terrain types blended in to make these each a little different than the others. For Erebus the changes included making the central lava pits a couple tiles wider to allow a better appearance of the lava and fire.
Note that although these maps should play without the EPIC mod, they will likey not look as good as the originals without EPIC and are not recommended for use without EPIC.
To install the maps, unzip these files into the RM2 folder under My Documents/My Games/AOM on your computer.
