Elevations

Now lets look at some screens while I guide you through them and explain what tools I used

Screenshot 1: Simple Hills

These are some simple hills, I used the round brush and Raise Elevation tool. The key to making good hills is to make them look natural and seamless. Never simply plop down a few lumps of rounded elevation, instead, make them fit and look realistic

Screenshot 2: Mountains

In my opinion, the square brush makes the best looking mountains, what I do is I try to make the mountains look jagged, moving the brush (square) around in a circular motion and gradually reducing the brush size(pressing the 1-9 keys on your keyboard) will make some very good mountains in seconds

Now smooth the edges of the mountains and any surrounding lumps of elevation, make sure the top is still pointy. Then add trees and anything else you want to complete the environemnt

Screenshot 3: Town

Now lets put together these two techniques into a town. Notice the plataus, I used the level terrain to make those.

Now use the Smooth elevation tool to smooth the elevation and remove any deforminites and make the map look more natural.

Design the rest of your map and you’re done
