The Lost Relic

Arkantos, Ajax and Chiron emerge from the Underworld to find themselves in another part of the world. But before they can get their bearings, they must help Amanra excavate the Sword of the Guardian.

Starting objective: Defend against attacks from the 3 canyons (2) long enough for your Villagers to dig out the artifact. (3)

Difficulty levels:

  • Easy:
    • Kemsyt’s units have less upgrades
  • Hard:
    • Kemsyt’s units have more upgrades
    • Kemsyt’s attacks are composed of more siege weapons
    • Kemsyt’s final attacks include a Son of Osiris
    • No wall on central approach to oasis
  • Titan:
    • Kemsyt’s units have even more upgrades
    • Kemsyt’s final attacks include two Sons of Osiris
    • No walls at all

The scenario opens with our bewildered heroes joining forces with Amanra on a hill in the south area of the camp. (1) Under your command are several slingers, two priests, your heroes, plus a new hero, Amanra, three hoplites and three toxotes. Your objective is remarkably simple, survive until you finish uncovering the relic in the southern area of the camp. (3) You can speed up the process of uncovering the relic by tasking more villagers on it, but you have precious few villagers on this mission, and you can’t build more, so it is probably wise to use them to gather resources and build more units.

Take a quick look around the camp. Villagers are gathering gold (4) and an additional gold mine can be found in the west of the map. (5) Nearby, on the east side of the map villagers are gathering food from hunting, (6) if you run out of food, you can find more hunting in the south-west of the map. (7) (Be careful of the crocodiles though – you can’t replace your villagers!) Finally a few villagers are gathering lumber just west of the dig site. (8)

Building up is not necessary to this mission, but it can be rather tough if you don’t. Start off by grabbing nearly all of your villagers and tasking them to mine gold. Research Pickaxe (increased mining speed and carry capacity) and then invoke the Prosperity god power. The god power’s benefit, plus all the villagers you allocated should give you a large enough sum of gold to ignore gold for a large part for much of the mission. (You can always put more villagers on it later if you find you are running out. ) However, you don’t need any more for now, so take most of your villagers off gold to do more useful things. This is also a good time to research the Flood of the Nile technology at the granary. It grants you a trickle of food – it’s the equivalent of getting an extra free villager or two gathering food.

Send your gold miners back to hunting and wood gathering, and have one or two begin constructing a Barracks to begin training troops. The initial attacks will be composed of spearmen, so build Axemen to start off with. Build Slingers to take advantage of the defense provided by your walls and attack enemies at range.

A word of caution is that Towers are expensive and take a long time to go up, and then go down very quickly to enemy siege weapons. (Which will appear sooner or later no matter what difficulty you play on.) Resist the temptation to build more towers – more units is always better than more Towers. Adding additional layers of walls is sometimes helpful though – and always remember to leave a gate so your melee units can go out and fight, after all. (Amanra will jump over walls even if you don’t leave a gate, so you need to let her get back in!) Walls alone will not stop an enemy, only slow them down. You need to get out there and do the fighting to stop the attacks.

If you are having trouble repelling attacks at all three canyons, try dividing your forces into two instead of three. The attacks are never spawned in all three canyons simultaneously. Remember to use your priests to heal units in between fights, but keep them away from the actual fighting when possible – you can’t replace them if they are killed.

When you have several of a unit type (Slingers, Spearmen or Axemen) research the Medium upgrade for them. When you approach the population limit, build an armory and research the upgrades there. When you hit the population limit and can’t produce more soldiers, take all of your villagers and task them on the dig site (3) to decrease the time necessary to win the scenario.

On the harder difficulty levels, you’ll be hit by some tougher attacks towards the end. Don’t worry if you can’t hold the canyons, simply retreat to the dig site (3) and repel the attackers from there. The demigod Sons of Osiris that will appear in the final waves are imposing, but target them with enough units and they go down just like any other unit.

When the villagers finish uncovering the relic, you will be rewarded with victory.
