Isis, hear my plea

Arkantos and Ajax are taken prisoner in the city of Abydos and Amanra must rescue them.

Starting objective: Destroy Gargarensis’ Migdol Stronghold. (3)

Difficulty levels:

  • Easy:
    • Gargarensis has less units and defenses
  • Hard:
    • Gargarensis’ forces and defenses have significantly more upgrades
    • Gargarensis has more units, including a Son of Osiris defending the Migdol Stronghold (3)
  • Titan:
    • Three Sons of Osiris defending the Migdol Stronghold (3)

The scenario opens at your settlement in the east of the map. (1) You command Amanra and a substantial army of myth units. Gargarensis’ forces will generate attacks from the Plateau to the west, (3) which you will have to attack in order to must raze the Migdol stronghold in order to gain access to the harbor. (4)

Queue up villies at all three of your town centers and begin establishing an economy.

For food, you can use the farms in the Abydos farmland to the west for free if you want, but there are a few of Gargarensis’ units wandering around here, so you’ll need to send a few units to clear them out before sending your villagers in. There’s also some hunting north of the farmland. Personally I think it’s just easier to set up your own farms, since you’re less likely to lose your villies.

Gold can be found in three locations: to the northwest, (2a) in the Abydos farmland west of the plateau, (2b) and two piles lie directly south of the plateau (2c) – these are directly in the path of attack of Gargarensis’ units though, so you may want to leave these until last. Set up miners near the close gold pile to the northwest – this will run out pretty quickly though. Once you have cleared the enemy units out of the Abydos farmland, the gold pile north of the plateau is safe to use. You can also send caravans to the Abydos Town Center. (Trading with allied TC’s rather than your own is always preferably – you get a significant gold bonus.)

Finally, you can gather wood safely near your northernmost Citadel. Get the first tier resource upgrades for each type as soon as possible to make your econ more efficient. Once your Pharaoh appears, send him to empower one of your resource gathering operations.

You start off with three god powers. Eclipse has an obvious use, since you’ve got a large number of MU’s – cast that when you are storming the plateau. Vision and Pestilence are pretty much useless – if you want, use them to reveal the plateau and then cast pestilence to slow down Gargarensis’ production of units.

In this scenario you can convert the city’s monuments by moving Amanra near them. You’ll end up with a massive favor income that allows you to go positively mad with MU’s on this level – but don’t go overboard, the AI builds a lot of priests. (On the harder difficulty levels, the Sons of Osiris will positively murder your MU based armies.) Train Sphinxes and Petsuchos’ as resources allow – both very cost effective, considering your number of monuments – and get a Migdol up and supplement these with Chariots, which can protect your MU’s from enemy priests by taking them out at long range. You won’t need any siege, since you’ve already got a lot of building killing MU’s.

On harder difficulties, you’ll have to repel a few challenging attacks while building up. Stay close to your Citadels and Migdol, and take out enemy Priests quickly.

Once you are happy with your army, it’s time to attack. You don’t need to clear out the entire plateau, just take the shortest route to the Migdol (3) and destroy everything that gets in your way. On Titan, advance slowly – don’t get the attention of all three Sons of Osiris at once, or you’re going to find it very hard to kill them. When you do encounter them, focus fire all your ranged units to kill them as quickly as possible. You may find you need to make several attacks to take out most of the units on the Plateau.

Once the Son(s) of Osiris are down and so are most of the priests, focus all your units on Migdol. (3) You simply need to knock it down to get your next objective.

New objective: Amanra must reach the Transport Ship.

Gargarensis’ army will now head up to the plateau, leaving the path to the harbor clear. (4) Send Amanra and a handful of units (you won’t need an army here) through the Abydos farmland towards the area Gargarensis’ army has just vacated, (4) take out the gate, and get in the waiting transport ship.

New objective: Send Amanra to the Abydos harbor (5) to convert a navy.

This objective should not be misinterpted as “Send Amanra to the Prison, where her defenseless transport ship will be sunk by Gargarensis’ navy.” Apart from that, I can’t think of any problems you could possibly have fulfilling this objective.

New objective: Use your new navy to break Amanra into the prison.

On harder difficulties, your navy will be insufficient to breach Gargarensis’ defenses, so you’ll need to build up a bit. There are towers, Scyllas and Kebenits that you have to contend with, so build yourself a few Ramming Galleys and Siege Barges. Then, head out and attack. Take out the towers with your Siege Barges first before moving past the cliffs. Target the Scyllas with your Ramming Galleys and the Kebenits with your Siege Barges. Once the area is safe enough, bring Amanra’s transport in an drop her off, move her into the prison, and you’ll be rewarded with victory.
