Let’s go

With the heroes reunited, it is time to recover the Piece of Osiris from Abydos while fighting off the forces of Kemsyt and Kamos.

Starting objective: Survive until Setna’s transports arrive from the southwest.

Difficulty levels:

  • Easy:
    • Start in Heroic Age under Nephthys
    • Start with +800 of each resource
    • Start with Ballista Tower and Crennelations upgrades
    • Extra War Turtle granted on arrival at Abydos Resistance camp
    • Kemsyt’s army has less units and defenses
  • Hard:
    • Kemsyt’s army has more units and defenses
    • Far less gold and goats in Abydos resistance camp (2)
    • No towers in Abydos resistance camp (2)
    • Kamos’ Pirates (3) have a Citadel instead of a Town Center
    • Kamos’ Pirates and Kemsyt’s Army have more upgrades
  • Titan:
    • Only one small gold pile and no Temple in Abydos resistance camp

The scenario opens at the prison island from the previous scenario. (1) You command the four heroes, two avengers and a handful of axemen, as well as a new hero, Setna…who is well, a tough version of a priest. A War Turtle under your command is nearby. You should have no trouble repelling the attacks while waiting for Setna’s transports arrive.

New objective: Use the transports to move your troops to the flag in the allied town to the southwest. (2)

Pretty self explanatory. There’s only a few lone pirate ships between you and the Abydos resistance camp, so there’s no challenges involved here. Head straight for the highlighted location on the map and disembark. The Abydos Resistance camp will convert to your control.

New objective: Capture the Osiris Piece Cart (5) and move it to the flag outside the city’s south gate. (6)

Optional: Destroy the Lighthouse of Abydos to halt the attacks by Kamos’ Pirate Ships.

For now your main concern is survival. Your initial goals should be wiping out the camp to your north (3) and the Lighthouse and Temple (which generates Petsuchos attacks) on the peninsula to the northeast. (4) This will leave you free to build up (mostly) unharassed and assault Kemsyt’s forces on the mainland. On harder levels, this is also essential because the gold in your village will run out fairly quickly – you can find quite a bit more in Kamos’ camp.

So, for now, you have to rely on your small army and navy to fend off attacks, and use Setna to heal any units (remember he can heal ships, too) that are damaged between attacks. On Titan and possibly Hard, you will take quite a beating as attacks are generated very quickly – don’t worry about trying to maintain control of the water. Ring the town bell only when essential as it interferes with your resource gathering – try casting Plague of Serpents instead to keep enemy units occupied until your army arrives. Focus on getting to Heroic as quickly as possible and erecting a Migdol. Putting up a monument or two and training myth units will help you out a lot – since regular units will get killed off quite easily whereas MU’s can be healed between skirmishes. You can also grab a relic that lowers MU cost near Kamos’ camp. (3)

Empower your food gathering in order to gather the resources to get to Heroic as quickly as possible. There is a lot of fishing in the bay, but you may find it easier if you ignore the water for now – especially on the harder levels – simply because you’ve got less to defend and it doesn’t matter if your navy gets wiped out. (If you want, there is a small lake west of your camp where you can fish unharassed – it’s probably not worth it though.)

Once you have a decent villager force on all three resources and a monument or two set up, then it’s time to advance. There are merits to both choices – Nephthys’ Ancestors god power will help you win a battle of your choice on land or at sea and she has a naval MU, while Hathor’s Roc will let you ignore the water altogether and her Petsuchos is effective against both units and buildings. Put up a Siege Camp and Migdol, begin training some soldiers and siege towers to supplement your current army.

You don’t need a large army to take out the camp to the north, (3) so once you are confident with your forces, head out and attack. Keep your heroes in front to absorb the damage done by Kamos’ MU’s. Draw injured units out of the combat and heal them. Raze the structures in the camp and claim the settlement, then head out onto the peninsula (4) and repeat the process with the enemies out there. There’s also two relics you may want to grab between the Temple and Lighthouse.

Now that our enemies are going to leave us in relative peace, we can focus on getting the Osiris Cart. (5) Build yourself up to the population limit, buy upgrades, get to the Mythic age. There’s no hurry here.

A tip is that as soon as you focus the screen over the cart, a timer is started, and you’ll be informed that if you don’t capture the cart before it runs down, it will be moved further into the city, near Osiris’ Pyramid (7) – where you will have to do a lot more fighting to get to it. To avoid this, simply…well…don’t look at the cart until you’re ready to attack. The timer won’t be started. (Kind of stupid, yes, but it works.)

Landing on the mainland will require a little thought, since there are towers dotting the coastline that will sink conventional transport ships, and using siege ships to knock out the defenses usually draws the attention of Kemsyt’s navy. Building a large navy though is not necessary, there are a few easier options at your disposal:

  • Hathor’s Roc MU will let you avoid fighting in the water at all and you can simply fly your units across to the mainland – though you should plot a landing location that lets you avoid Towers – which stand a good chance of shooting Rocs down.
  • Thoth’s Phoenix MU and Meteor god power will let you clear out towers and other defenses without attracting the attention of Kemsyt’s navy, allowing you to make a speedy, unopposed landing. Remember to heal your Phoenixes – they take extra damage from Towers.
  • Nephthys’ Leviathan is tough enough that it can survive a lot of enemy fire when you are transporting units. You can attempt to land near enemy towers and under fire from enemy ships and pretty much assured doing so successfully.

Once you have a balanced army with siege capabilities and a means of getting them across to the mainland unscathed, it’s time to attack. Land near the Osiris piece cart, (5) grab it, and begin fighting your way out of the city to the marker. (6) As you will know from from mission 13, the cart moves very slowly, so try to keep your units out its way to speed up your exit from the city. Once you’ve bashed your way through the city gates and get the cart outside, you’ll be rewarded with victory.

On to mission 16
