Where they belong

The heroes rendezvous in Abydos and attempt to reuinite the Pieces of Osiris so that the god may return from death and defeat Gargarensis.

Starting objective: Unite the Osiris Piece carts in front of Osiris’ pyramid. (6)

Difficulty levels:

  • Easy:
    • Gargarensis has far less Towers
    • Gargarensis has fewer starting units
  • Hard/Titan:
    • Gargarensis has more Towers and Walls
    • Gargarensis has the Boiling Oil upgrade
    • No catapults among starting units
    • No Towers in Chiron’s camp (1)

This is another scenario where your forces start off divided. Chiron’s camp is to the west, (1) and contains a Monument and Temple. Plentiful hunting can be found nearby, the lake here has five fish patches in it, there is a free settlement to the north, and a relic to be found to the east. Amanra’s camp (2) contains a Barracks and Armory, and there is a berry patch to the south. Both camps contain a small gold pile and several goats.

Your first order of business should be cranking up villager production and focusing on food. Once your free food runs out, use the Rain god power to boost your farming. (Remember that it only affects farms placed close to a settlement.)

Now that food is attended to, set villagers to chopping the forest that separates the two camps (3) – while it’s not difficult to take out the resistance to the north that blocks your passage between the two camps, this will allow your army to move more quickly between them to defend while you are building up. And having one strong army is going to be much more practical than trying to manage two small ones.

The gold piles in each camp will serve you initially, but will run out quickly. More can be found directly northeast of Chiron’s camp, (4a) and past the first defenses north of Amanra’s camp. (4b) Both of these lie directly in the path of attack used by Gargarensis’ units, so you may wish to set up walls to divert them, or keep your army nearby to defend your workers. Empower your gold to make it last longer. (As you are Ra, you can empower with priests as well as the Pharaoh.)

On the harder difficulties, you will have to repel a few challenging attacks while building up. Because there are no Towers in Chiron’s camp, you may wish to put up a Migdol here to help defend your economy. Don’t be hesitant about using the Plague of Serpents and Ancestors god powers, use them to help deflect early attacks – they won’t prove much use later on.

Gargarensis’ forces use a wide spread of units in this scenario, so there are no particular units that are necessary to focus on in building up. Ra grants you improved Chariots and Camelry – Osiris also offers you the Desert Wind upgrade to Camelry in the Mythic Age. Alternately, worship Horus and you will have access to several powerful upgrades for Spearmen.

Because several of the attacks are generated from structures outside Abydos’ walls, it may pay off to make some probing attacks while building up. It won’t cost you much to build a Siege Tower or two to deal with the walls and Towers Gargarensis has littered the area with, and if you can wipe out any production buildings, you’ll slow the rate at which attacks are sent at your camps.

Once you are satisfied with the strength of your army, attack towards the Pyramid. (6) The resistance shouldn’t prove much challenge, providing you have sufficient siege power to get rid of defenses. If your Osiris piece carts are captured, Gargarensis will attempt to move them towards the center of the map. (7) This shouldn’t pose much of a problem though, so don’t worry about bringing your carts along behind your army.

Arkantos will not arrive with the third Osiris piece until you have either brought the first two pieces to the Pyramid, or 20 minutes have passed. When one of these requirements is fulfilled, he and Ajax will appear in the east of the map (5) with a few elephants and catapults. Your population cap is raised by 50, and – if you haven’t already – you can claim the settlement here to boost your pop cap further. There’s also two relics to be found in this area.

Now it’s simply a matter of clearing the way for the last Osiris piece to the Pyramid, and you’ll be rewarded with victory.
