Not from around here

The heroes meet Skult, whose Folstag Flag can unite the Norse clans, if the heroes can get him through the giant lands.

Starting objective: Move Arkantos, Skult and the Folstag flag bearer along the dirt path to the flagged site to the north. (7)

  • Easy:
    • Start with more upgrades
  • Hard:
    • Start with less upgrades
    • Giants attack sooner
  • Titan:
    • The Giants only need destroy one of the Dwarven Forge to defeat the player

This mission opens in the south of the map, (1) where our heroes have been joined by Skult. Under your command are 10 Hoplites and Throwing Axemen, your heroes, Skult and the Folstag Flag Bearer – neither of which can fight, but like the story heroes, they can’t be killed permanently either.

This is a fairly straightforward mission. Begin heading north, and you’ll soon see to the west of the path the first of the many temples on the map. Each of these is guarded by several Mountain and Frost Giants, and will train more to attack you. If you progress slowly so as not to attract the attention of too many giants at once, your four heroes should be more than sufficient to deal with them.

Near the center of the map, you will see a boulder wall (2) blocking your path, and you’ll be informed you need to build a base and train siege weapons to get past. (Which is perfectly reasonable, given that the boulder wall is nearly immune to hack and pierce damage.)

New objective: Build up a base near the boulder wall (2) and advance to the Heroic age.

You don’t need to do a lot of building up on this scenario. Pump out some villagers – there’s hunting to be found south of your Town Center, and you can retrieve a large number of goats from the southeast. (3) If you run out of gold, three more piles can be found along the west pass. (4)

Train some Hersir to help defend your camp while you build up. If you want, you can go out and destroy the Temples that are generating the attacks in either pass, but it’s more trouble than it’s worth. As long as you have enough Hersir to slaughter anything that wanders into your town, you’ll be fine. (On harder difficulties, you may want to grab some armory upgrades too.) Drop the Healing Spring god power down early on to heal your units between attacks.

Once you have enough resources, hit the Heroic button. If you so choose, Njord grants you the Mountain Giant – one of the best building killers in AoM – which will help us out soon.

New objective: Build siege weapons and break through the boulder wall. (2)

You only need to knock out one section of the boulder wall, and you only need a few units to do so. Mountain Giants, Battle Boars, Einherjar, and of course Portable Rams are all suitable units for this task.

Once a section of the boulder wall is reduced to 30% of its HP, an army of Giants will arrive in each of three passes leading to your camp (5) and begin diverging on your position. This should not pose much of a threat because the wall will be down well before they arrive, providing you have several siege weapons working on whichever section you’ve chosen. Once you destroy a wall section, you’ll be given your final objective.

New objective: Escape the Giant armies. Move Skult, Arkantos and the Folstag flag bearer to the flag at the north end of the pass. (7)

Grab your heroes and head north up the now opened pass – dispatching the few Giants who are waiting for you. You’ll have pause at the forest blocking your path (6) while your heroes confer, and then Odin – conveniently – sets the forest alight. Once a gap has been opened, send your units through. Once Arkantos, Skult and the Folstag Flag bearer reach the marker, (7) you’ll be rewarded with victory.
