I know this is probably far beyond the scope of any game likely to come out in the near future, except how much do you think a wrap-around map would add to the game of AOM. One that has no edge is what I am talking about. The view on the screen would still look the same and so would the mini-map, except you could reach east by travelling west. Then again, the flat map does fit in with the "reality" from the timeframe viewpoint considering the fact that people thought the earth was flat back then.

Civ games have wrap around maps.
But in those games it was global domination.

Given the scale used in aom, it would have to be a very big map.

If the minimap was not capable of displaying the whole world at once it would not be doing its job. Just a reminder.

thats why i said make it a map option. So that if you dont want a "wrap around" world view today, then click option "square world" or what ever...

And when you get attacked somewhere else shortly after the map goes there instead. It just would not work. Not in a game of this type anyway.

Yes I did mean that it is just that bad even if it is only the minimap. If you battle on two fronts it might become so that the minimap could only displays helpful information on one of the battles at a time. That is not good enough.

The why is that the negative factor is too big unless there would some really positive feature coming with it. And so far I just have not seen any.

The mini-map could show everything on a flat map just like a map of the world in an atlas. Why would the map have to be bigger? You could have a small wrap-around map. It would just be a lot faster to circle the entire thing. Your main-screen viewpoint would look absolutely no different than it does now and if you clicked on a spot on the mini-map, it would simply change your main viewpoint to be what you would see if you were at that location.
