If you look at the video, the area on the minimap that is being viewed is in some sort of trapezoid, not square. I wonder how this works...

My best guess is that it's because view is not at 90° angle towards ground. So, when you change view angle, the minimap shape changes (after all, when viewing at 30° you'll see things alot different than when viewing at 90° angle).

It is a 3d game, so you see more stuff that is further away and less but larger objects which are closer to you. The Minimap shows EXACTLY what you are looking at...
