So I have been tinkering with the original (completely vanilla) installation of AoM, and I have one last issue to take care of.
In the Campaign cutscenes, the screen often scrolls out of bounds, revealing the out-of-map black edges, which detracts from the experience a lot. It is clearly caused by the game never being tested on a 1920x1080 resolution. Even the letterbox for the cutscene text had to be added back in with a user.cfg line: LetterBoxAspectRatio=2.5. With this however, the camera still captures out of bounds places and the advice I have seen is a user.cfg line fov=19. This line zooms in the whole game and captures the map properly.
The issue is, I like the zoom-out that my resolution provided quite a bit. The gameplay itself looks and feels much better with it rather than without, but the cutscenes look just terrible. Is there a way to zoom in the cutscenes only, or perhaps to add another pair of cutscene black bars, this time on the sides of the screens?
As far as I know, that is exactly how the original cutscenes looked like anyway, a smaller capture in the middle of the screen, surrounded by black bars on all sides, with the text on the bottom black bar still.
It would be lovely if it was possible to have proper cinematics, yet a zoomed out game.
