With this trigger setup, players are turn to monkeys, then dust when in range of Kronos. This only works in the editor and crashes all other game types. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I know the game can crash when there is an AI player set when you mess with changing units. Try playing with the AI set to No AI.

The crash is to desktop - been around since the original game. It's a very annoying bug. I think it can also happen if you destroy AI units (The type which makes them disappear).
Thankfully as mentioned the "NoAI" is enough to mitigate this.

Trigger 2 fires trigger 2. Is that a mistake?
I'm not sure why it would work in the editor but not in other modes... Unless other modes somehow require more processing and the crash is from the repeated dust rendering on top of that.
