Hello fellow mythologians.
I decided to make a scenario for a group of my friends to play, having played around a lot with the scenario editor many years past and with all the powerful new triggers out there I wanted to really take on an overkill project to see just how far my artistic abilities can take me. Well, I guess further than the game can handle? I made a scenario with 2500 x 2500 in dimension. I wouldn't mind if the loading time was long, but the scenario fails to load.
When it fails to load, it's a crash to desktop without any error message.
At first I did not know what to do, I tried all kinds of things - Eventually I noticed that if I generated enough regular RMS maps, the scenario would actually load?
So I continued work. Scenario continued to load inconsistently, I noticed that when it failed to load that my GPU would jump up to 100% for half a second. I've updated my graphics drivers and tried switching to lowest possible resolution. Will more consistently load now, but quite unbearable to work in.
Additionally viewing animations in the editor and assigning animations to units has broken down. When playing around with a number of units and scrolling through their available animations, eventually I would not have correct options in the list. For instance having a Cyclops selected and the list showing "GatherFood" etc. and being unselectable. Undeterred I assigned animations to two villagers, each in their separate Army. One works, the other one refuses to. No idea why. I've tried replacing that unit and reassigning, but no change. The animation that works is a cinematic animation for the villagers and the one that doesn't work is the hunt gathering one.
1. Anyone has any ideas on what's wrong and things I can try to salvage my project? Beyond the obvious that it's too large of a map with too much detail put into it.
2. Any rules of thumb on what the limitations are? How big of a map and how much detail can you put into a map and still expect it to reliably load in the editor and be playable on MP?
