So there's a problem that's been around here for a while and that's how to find the right ID of a technology that you need to set a tech status in a RMS for example. I also wanna point out that this file on this page here is incorrect and/or not up to date.
Now here's a solution onhow to find the ID unsing Excel:
(note that I don't have Excel in English so the commands may vary. Correct me in a comment if you want).
1) Go to your Age of Mythology Folder. Go to data and find the latest techtree file (the one with the highest number, currently techtree2.7.xml)
2) Copy the file. Normally it should be no problem but I recommend copying the file and working with the copy anyway, just to be safe.
3) Open the file in excel. From the choice window that appears select "As XML-Table" (or similar). There might be a warning that the file doesn't follow the xml schema. You can ignore that. The file should then look somewhat like this:
4) Go to column dbid and click the dropdown. The dbid is not the TechID but we can use it to keep the right order. Sort from A to Z. Make sure numbers that have a different amount of digits are sorted correctly (in version 2.7 it should start with 64 and end with 985). The whole excel file has thousands of rows but now we just sorted out the ~600 that matter. All rows at the bottom that don't have a dbid are irrelevant to us. There's also one more tech in the list that has a dbid but no Tech ID: Loss of LOS.Don't ask me why but you have to skip this one. Took me long enough to find out about it... Best delete it from the list (its dbid is 524).
5) Now we're basically done. TechIDs are given chronologically starting at 0. You can now look for a technology and look at the row number to get the ID. IMPORTANT: The IDs start with 0 and the first technology (Age 1) will most likely be in row 2. You have to subtract that number to get the actual ID!
6) To make it easier to read you can create a new column next to "name" or anywhere you want. Type 0 in the first row and 1 in the second row. Then select both. Click and drag the square at the bottom corner of your selection all the way down to where the dbid column ends (or make sure to stop at "loss of LOS" and skip it if you didn't delete it). Excel will automatically fill in all the numbers for you. Tadaaa~
You can delete all the useless rows and columns if you wanna save the file.
Or of course you can download the Excel file here and the Plain text file here. :P
Please note that the IDs for techs of the Tale of the Dragon expansion are incorrect in my files since I'm only on EE.I just found out that the Khopesh upgrades are the IDs from 595 to 597 but I can't help any more.
Hope this helps! For myself it was already worth the work
