Ok, t his guide will go through all the practical shit about what I do in certain situations and accounts for what the majority of experts do in similar situations.This Guide Will include BO's (standard ones and some variety of course). It will include tactics and battle situations/ what situations Thor players usually encounter and how to deal with them. Even though there are many opinions on what to do in these situations, this guide represents my opinion, so nobody is "right or wrong" in deciding on say "where exactly to build a house" or something to that extent. So here it is and hope you enjoy it.
When the game is loading you want to look for 2 things.
1) What the map is ( so you can have a good idea of what you are doing with your starting units)
2) What you opponents god (as this ties directly into your strategy)
At this same screen when you start hearing the music of the game, hit hvvvv so you can queue up your starting vills.
1st off, you want to use dwarven mine on side of your tc that is next to your starting gold mine while hitting the town bell so the 2 starting dwarves go into the tc then onto the gold mine. Then, click the Ox Cart and get HD if you see a good hunting group in the vicinity of your tc. ( On Savannah i get HD anyway, knowing i will be hunting later on) On Ghost Lake i have a special BO that i use. Then set waypoint for your tc to the starting food source. Now If this a water map, set waypoint for stragglers, and dont get AQ, and send Ulf to water.
BO's
High Hunt
Vs. Norse- 7 to food, 2 to wood, then ox cart, then 2 more to wood, (Temple) then 2 dwarves to gold, cart, then 2 more dwarves to gold, then advance at 3:15.
vs. Greek and Atty- 8 to food, 1 to wood, cart, 4 to wood, temple, 2 dwarves to gold, cart, 3 dwarves to gold, up at 4+/-.
vs Eggy-8 to food, 3 to wood, cart, 3 to wood, 1 dwarf to gold (temple) 5 to gold. Advance at 4:30.
In my experience, Frejya is the best choice unless you are vs eggy, then go Forseti.
2 dwarves to Boar/buffalo, then 4 to gatheres to food. Then ox cart, and move dwarves to gold after dropping off extra resources at food cart. Then 3 more gatheres to food, then 2 to wood, then cart, then 3 more to wood, then 3 dwarves to gold. Get temple when u can afford it. If there is no hunt at all, after like 3rd gatherer to food, get 2nd ulf to scout middle for goats. dwarven mine, 1st dwarves to gold, (ulf to dock) then 4 gaths to wood, then 2 dwarves to goats ( which are very important on this map). Then after this, its more improve, as it depends on how many pigs are on this map. Ok hoped you liked 1st 3rd of it, 66% more to come 11. huh.gif Eco after classic- Certain map situations to remember- On anatolia all the gold is in the middle, so when you make temple, remember to keep in mind gold control, i like to center my temple right near 2-3 gold mines then deny my opponent trade later on. Also, after temple and before advance you should build a dock on the other side of the map, in case somehow you lose water as thor. Ok, 33% more to go 11. Battle!!!! Well i hope you like this guide! On Ghost Lake- Screw Dwarven Mine (thx lokistoned for enlightening me 11)
Note: I'm not gonna include a BO for oasis, as i believe this map is mostly improv. and you should not have a concrete BO for this map, same goes for Savannah and 1v1 Highland.
Mediterranean Sea
Midgard- Starting dwarves to gold, then after 3rd gatherer to wood, move dwarves to gold, and have ulf go to other side of map to make second dock then a house. After this, its improv. again.
Highland- Make 2 more ulfs right at start and send two to scout, and 2 to find enemy vill and harrass it, then make 5 vills to food, then 3 to wood, then cart, then some more to food, then ijmprov. If u get tons of fish, get less hunters etc etc. Dont worr about advancing late on this map, games usually take awhile here.
Part 2-
Gods/Godpowers
vs. norse- Frejya always!, skadi to counter fw and for TA upgrades, and baldr of course, i shouldnt even have to say it lol.
vs. greek- vs an Athena Mino rush, go forseti, but other than that, always go frejya, go fw, but save it until you go Tyr to block Ceasefire.
vs. atty- frejya to own cherio/proms (OP bonus), bragi, then baldr, lategame, fg's rape nc.
vs eggy, go forseti, then go bragi, then go za Baldr.
I go to gold 1st with dwarves until i get 11 on gold, then i go 4 dwarves to wood for TA, then more to pigs, until i get enough food for gatheres to go too wood, then i start farming.But always improvise, that is jsut a concrete beginning.
On Watering hole, if you have a choice of grabbing a tc naer the water or grabbing the tc in the middle, grab the tc in the middle, as your tc will surely be raped by mythic siege ships later in the game 11. Also, Ballista are extremely affective on this map to reach across water and own stuff.
On Alfhiem-Wall the sh&^ out of stuff and gold starve greeks&eggy.
On Oasis vs Non-Norse spam Raiding Cavalry however wait until heroic to get medium cavalry/thundering hooves. Vs. Norse, i like to Stay at home , and grab a tc if he is donig the same, or Spamming TA like crazy, while having small raiding party heading for his food source.
vs. Eggy- The best unit combo is hersir+Rc+ulf, as TA are useless unless he goes all axemen. The best idea is to hang close to your forward tc, and try to refrain from fighting near his migdols. Another key aspect to fighting isis, is to learn not to hesitate in using fw, if u think too long, he will already have sprung a&e on you. Also attempt to flank ur RC behind his chariots,as this will gain u the advantage, because his chariots are busy warding off your RC , and not firing on your ulfs that are killing his phants. Armory improvements are extremely important vs eggy, as his migdol units have better stats than your military.
vs. Greek and Norse, Nothing too special, just be careful of powerful late game from Greeks and and get upgrades for w/e unit counters his special unit (e.g. make RC upgrades for his gasts lategame) And make sure not to fight when your enemy has massed TA in norse wars, as well as stay way from woods, cuz FF can win an early norse wars.
vs. Atty- Again keep RC to side to maneuver into his cherios/arcus, then take ur TA/ulfs to rape his murms.
And whenever you find you have enough resources, go baldr, as if you have truly been keeping up with your eco, he will win the game for you with rag.
The only other thing there is to say is that as Thor, the armory is extremely important to winning late game battles, as your units have high attack, but weak armor, which thor armory quickly solves. Also, make sure to make plenty of longhouses, as flooding your units into battle is crucial to overpowering enemy forces.
