AoM: The Titans |
Rogue Wars is a Last Man Standing type map. Players randomly spawn an army. This Rogue Army must attack or be attacked. Be careful, use your units wisely! The last Army or Team left alive wins.
Features:
-3 different "skins", same gameplay, different map
-Random Starting locations
-Random civ set (Greek, Egyptian, Atlantean, or Norse)
-about 200 of the 250 triggers in this map go to the controlling of the random events. There are exactly 12 different starting configurations for each player, generated randomly.
-Reinforcements and Rewards - after getting a certain amount of consecutive kills, you are rewarded with things like Armor, units, or godpowers.
-Lighting, effects, sound, and the whole ensemble standard of my maps.
-Template map, so you can make your own Rogue Wars
-Smart comps: The computer players play surprisingly well in this map.
Special thanks to aznduy2 and Matei for testing and ideas.

* A repost of my review. I'll ask Lp to delete Pompey's review when he gets on. Higher rating, last time was too low.
Playability: 4
In one word- Great:). Rogue Wars has much to offer in terms of playability- and espiacally in variety. There are 3 different maps to choose from- Plateau, Rivers and Mountains- and 3 different "Army Sets". The Army sets are random (as I have come to understand when playing in-game) and I was lucky to get the norse set.
It did have only one issue- its kind of slow. The armies are also too small. I was dissapointed to see that a mere 5 kills can already give you a bonus.
It would also have been better if you added some sort of building to destroy. I lost immediately when I lost all my troops- yet, you could just keep yourself alive by hiding one soldier among the many plateaus and other hiding places..and just keep respawning.
Oh, I also want to mention the way units respawn very close to yours- when I was approaching the middle I was going to complain about how the units would spawn at the beginning and I would have to walk all that way again- but they actually spawned pretty close:). Good job!
Balance: 4
Balance was nearly perfect- but, as I mentioned before, only 5 kills can already give you a major bonus. With just 15 kills you already have a healing spring, spider power and a bolt. It gives one player too much of an advantage over the other. Bolt his hero of ragnorak, or one of his axe throwers, throw some spiders behind and move in for the kill. The one with the kills first wins. There are a few Gaia units you get to kill that give you that advantage.
Creativity: 5
I would have given this a 3 were it just a normal blood map, but the massive variety (3 great maps) along with the 3 army sets just totally blowed me away. Along with some nifty dialogue and a good mix of god powers and some neutral units put into the mix, Creativity no doubt deserves a 5:).
Map Design: 5
Way better than your horse race scenario! The map design wasn't bland at all, except maybe your rivers scenario wasn't as good looking as the others. I espiacally liked the paths leading through the mountains.
Story/Instructions: 5
The dialogue included some humour (pwned, alright I find that funny) and continued reminders of your total kills was a wonderful addition. Overall the instructions were clear and simple- a 5 is well earned here.
Additional Comments:
More units. We need bigger battles- the kill limit is too small. You're already too powerful at 15 kills. You could wipe out the next guy easily- espiacally if you're playing teams (can you play teams?).
I played this on single player, by the way- so my comments might not be 100% accurate. If there is any place you wish to correct me, please tell me:). I would love to modify this review for better or for worse if need be. |
