AoM: The Titans |
i've been working on this for awhile now i just thought i'd upload it on here and see what everyone thought. it's still got some kinks 2 work out but i would like to hear what you have 2 say about what i should add/remove.
basically how the game works is every 3 minutes your units will spawn at various places through out the map, the only way to stop them from spawning is to destroy the designated building.
just extract the file into your aom scenario folder
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology\scenario
*update* Nov 25/08
changed a few small things
units spawn everyone 3 mins instead of 2 so it shouldn't get so crowded
*update* Dec 4/08
changed more small things
Isengard is bigger so it shouldn't get so crowed
changed colors cause i think they look cooler lol
*update* Dec 18/08
finally figured out how to change all the names
*update* Jan 17/09
changed the units stats so it looks more rounded and hopefully will make it more even |

Wow! I'm the first download. Will have a look tomorrow, but if it is any good you will be under serious pressure to join the RoTK Mod! |

In order for Scenarios to work ingame they have to be either .scn (for vanilla) or .scx (for titans) to work.
From my research the .BAK file appears to be a backup file... |

Just change file extension by renaming it, it worked for me. Change the file name to (***).scx
My hint on display, use capitals, correct punctuation, spelling and don't type things like "Im goin 2 da market"[Edited on 11/18/08 @ 05:37 AM]

This review has been completely edited due to my own new experiences in map design and further understanding of playability. It's a good scenario, but could use some touching up on.
Playability: 3
The map is fairly fun to play over all. However, there was one major problem- the lag.
It lagged majorly, starting from the opening cinematic, everytime I played through it. In the cinematic, this was mainly caused by the camera moving to quickly. In the rest of the map, it was caused by the ton of units fighting at all times. This could've been at least reduced, by reducing the camera speed and # of units. It was still fun, but that lag...ugh.
Balance: 4
It's decently balanced. My favorite part is that it requires team work to win, and thus is difficult for the good side. On evil, however, there's a good chance of simply over-whelming your opponent if they're too slow or don't work together. The strategies, such as defending Osgiliath right off the bat or retreating to Minis Tirith without effort to defend Osgiliath, makes things interesting. I quite enjoyed this aspect of things.
Creativity: 4
It's fairly creative. It's based on Lord of the Rings, and there's a ton of those types of scenarios here, but I thought it was creative enough. Not many scenarios show the entire map of Middle-Earth, although a couple do. The city design was pretty nice actually, showing the cities with decent accuracy. The main point I took off for was the fact that it took from Lord of the Rings and the fact that some of the cities had a simple design.
Map Design: 2.5
Well, I hate to say it, but I now realize how average this was. In fact, below average. There was no embellishments or terrain mixing at all for quite a bit of the map- units traveled across vast areas of one terrain and no embellishments. It was also very, very flat-even the plains of Rohan had a hill or two in the books I'm sure. The city design was also a bit plain. Of course there's not many terrains that mix, but all of the buildings were military only. A couple houses with good eyecandied buildings mixed in would've worked wonders.
My main points were
1) Almost no nature! Slap down some grass, bushes, rocks, rotting logs- what ever, but just make sure it's more than flat terrain.
2) Improved city design- Place down some eyecnadied houses, simple structures that most cities have, have a few villagers (cpu player) walk around using unit move to point and timers, and a small market area. War doesn't stop trade- it's a neccssity for a city to survive.
Story/Instructions: 4
The instructions were great- they provided everything you needed to know about an already simple scenario. The thing you lost a point for, however, was the story.
There isn't one! I mean, there is one if you know about Lord of the Rings, but that doesn't excuse you from including it. Despite the fact that many people have at least heard of it doesn't mean you don't have to place it in there. A short intro to it in the cinematic, with a quote from the book or two, would've been perfect.
And, even if it is based off Lord of the Rings, there were a couple issues that made it miss here too:
1) Frodo is not there. It would've been tricky, sure, to include him because then you'd need to include Minis Morgul's passage to make it balanced, but it could've been done.
2) Saraun (tricky spelling. Oh well) IS there. Which gives off the hint that Frodo may be dead, but in LOTR him getting the ring spells instant doom. Thus, this can't happen.
Pretty good job here, but improve the story. Please :D
Aditional comments:
An enjoyble scenario based off LOTR that has some lagging problems and needs improved map design. Over all, well done. I enjoyed it and look forward to other scenarios by you :P[Edited on 10/29/09 @ 07:17 PM]
