ISLAND ADVENTURE
Winner of Kai Hirogashi's RPG Tournament of the Year
Island Adventure is a free-roaming, single-player RPG scenario that makes use of several custom effects especially designed for RPGs.
Washed ashore on a mysterious island, you set out to explore your new home. Encountering castaways, pirates, natives and monsters, you must make difficult choices that affect more than just who is your enemy and confront a peril that puts the whole island in danger.
Customise your character:
- Class
- Name
- Attributes
Make difficult choices:
- Choose who to attack
- Choices determine availability of some shops and quests
Face challenging quests:
- Solve puzzles
- Kill monsters
- Find items
Keep track of quests in your journal
- Quest giver
- Quest type
- Target
- Status
Interact with NPCs
- Talk to castaways, pirates, natives and monsters
- Find shops scattered around the island
- Receive quests and gain rewards
- Learn about island life
Additional features
- Day/Night Cycle
- Weather FX
- Respawning enemies
WARNING: There is no real end to this scenario, just explore the island and complete the quests. Quit when you get bored of exploring or if you have seen the entire island.
Trigger Pack: A few people have asked about the triggers I used to make this scenario, you can find the trigger pack here |

For sure, one of the best RPG I've ever played on AoM. The following camera is also a good idea that not many people uses in their RPGs maps.
The only bad point is that sometimes the rain can be annoying because it happens too often during the game. |

yeah i was gonna do the same thing with the camera, but it really didnt work with my type of gameplay. Ive been working on anothr rpg while doing this one, and im including that as well. As far the scenario goes... How do you win?! I've destroyed everything and done every quest...[Edited on 08/25/10 @ 07:49 PM]

::: Playability: 5
I had no problems playing this game what so ever. Everything worked fine and it was so easy to install! I'm really impressed about the trigger work effort that was put into this scenario. And the camera following the unit also worked fine.
::: Balance: 5
I don't know if it will differ with different difficulty levels, but in the beginning it was a little tougher defeating the walking trees, but as my unit gradually got stronger it was quite easy.
Puzzles a little too easy though, but otherwise a well balanced system.
::: Creativity: 4[
Most of the points given here is due to your amazing foundation of triggers to this RPG. You have everything, merchants, upgrades, weather, stamina, XP... you name it. I quite like the controls and the general execution of the RPG was good.
Having monuments as favour-source was a little to unexciting though, and both puzzles where the same.
Generally, you have a good base for an RPG, still it wasn't too unique as the island wasn't too eventful.
::: Map Design: 3
Above average I must say, still it was quite simple and not too full of details and interesting environments to get those extra points, but still you have some variation.
I like when a designer explore odd combinations of terrain and nature that surprisingly looks good. You environment is definitely good looking, but is still very regular.
::: Story/Instructions: 3
The instructions was just fine, and I can't remember any confusion during the playthough.
Although you had a good base for an RPG, as I mentioned, I think that this scenario had a lot more potential of becoming a full RPG with an interesting story, characters and events.
As it was now, I didn't felt a story, nor a goal at all. I was just strolling around the island, trying to find something to do, yet the missions I came across where very simple and ended abruptly.
Maybe I didn't explore enough, but I explored around the whole island, and solved all missions, still it didn't end.
::: Additional Comments:
A good scenario with sensational triggering. However, for an RPG it wasn't very exciting, since the missions was very simple, not much of a story and it felt like I was running around without finding anything important or interesting to do.
Especially in an RPG, I want to find cool areas or hidden secrets or anything that makes exploring fun.
I sound very critical, but that's just because this scenario has so much potential and I still think it was very well made. =)
Keep up the good work![Edited on 08/25/10 @ 05:15 PM]

It's a free roaming RPG, that's why there isn't much of a storyline. |

Yes, but then it must be interesting to roam. |
