Terrain placement is probably the first thing you will go into when designing your map. Be it grasslands, mountainous, desert, caves or the underworld you are designing, good terrain placement will get you there.

The terrain options are found under the Terrain menu in the AOM editor. The options are:

  • Paint Terrain : The basic terrain tool, which allows you to paint the desired terrain over the map.
  • Paint Land : This tool is like Paint Terrain, but it actually puts down land, that is, cliff face in paint terrain is walkable on, but in land, it acts like a cliff face.
  • Paint Water : This tool allows you to put down different water bodies on the map.
  • Edit Water : Also known as the beautify tool, this allows you to select a water body and beautify it/add eye-candy to it with just a click.
  • Canyon/Cliff Tool : This allows you to lay down a canyon or cliff on the map.
  • Forest Toll : This allows to lay down tress belonging to specific forest types on the map.
  • Brush Settings : This allows you to change the brush size/shape in the editor.

Go into the editor, and try out the different Terrain functions offered, then visit the Terrain Placement Guide for more in-depth look into terrains.
